Chang Himal - A step into the unknown
Oil on canvas
60cm x 40cm unframed.
NFS at the moment.
The steep slopes of this mountain tower above Lhonak in the Kanchenjunga area of Nepal. Nick Bullock described his first accent of the North face ( with Andy Houseman) as a "step into the unknown" with "rotten rock and sweeping snow shoots". Looking up in the late afternoon I was amazed how anyone could find a way up through the labyrinth of rock and ice. All that and then survive the overnight freezing bivi's at high altitude. With clouds bubbling up each afternoon obscureing the route, it seemed appropriate to use his words as a title for this painting.
